E. MendoliaEve Mendolia – Primary Elementary Teacher

Ms. Mendolia is currently in her 20th year of teaching as a lead teacher. In addition to her Primary Montessori duties, she is also the MPSA science lead, school sustainability liaison to APS, mentor coordinator, and is serving on the APS Deep Equity Leadership team. She began the Drew Buddy System, a program where older students assisted younger students with reading and assignments; as well as facilitating Drew’s first partnership with Microsoft for the ReSET program. Ms. Mendolia is now a candidate for the Arlington Teacher of the Year award, an honor to be announced at a later date. S. Hardy_SSOYShakina Hardy – Primary Elementary Assistant

Ms. Hardy joined Arlington Public Schools 10 years ago, and has been with Montessori for over 6 years, first joining us when we were a part of Drew Model School. She holds a B.A. in Social Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in ESOL Education, focusing on the cultural, social, and emotional development of ESOL students as they prepare for academic success in the mainstream classroom.She is currently an instructional assistant in Ms. Cathy Kalkus’ Primary Montessori classroom.

She has three children, including a daughter who graduated from our program a few years ago. Ms. Hardy calls teaching a passion and a pleasure, and feels that it is her purpose to teach. She finds great joy in building relationships with her students and families as she believes genuine family/school engagement is important for a student’s overall development. A quote near and dear to Ms. Hardy comes from renown author and poet, Maya Angelou. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  This speaks to her because she wants her students to feel the love she has for the class but, more so, for them as individuals. She looks forward to continuous growth in her educational endeavors.
