Ms. Mendolia has been a Primary Montessori teacher since 2000. In addition to her Primary Montessori duties, she is also the MPSA science lead, school sustainability liaison to APS, mentor coordinator, and is serving on the APS Deep Equity Leadership team. She began the Drew Buddy System, a program where older students assisted younger students with reading and assignments; as well as facilitating Drew’s first partnership with Microsoft for the ReSET program. Eve pursued and received Montessori training and certification in Early Childhood Education (2.5–6 years old) from the Center For Montessori Teacher Education/NY. Her BA from Hofstra University, as well as a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Education (Birth–2nd grade) from Hunter College in NYC.
Ms. Mendolia began her teaching career at The Washington Market School (Montessori) in Tribeca/Battery Park City, NYC in the wake of 9/11. In looking back, Eve has felt that one of her greatest contributions to teaching was the work she did with those children and families, helping them to adjust and rebuild during and after the trauma of 9-11. By forming one connected community, made up of school and classroom international families, Eve was able to incorporate varied cultures into her curriculum. She has continued using that model of inclusion to set the tone in each of her subsequent classes, inspired by these words of Maria Montessori: “It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe.”
